Radar Detectors

In the span of over thirty years, The Whistler Group has been deemed as one of the leading innovators in the laser and radar detection industry. Unlike many of the other detector manufacturers, Whistler has opted to focus on producing only a small number of products. With all of their resources being spent on just the development of laser/radar detectors and power inverters, the company is turning out some amazing products that are pushing the industry into the future. Whistler based at Bentonville, Arkansas, their radar and laser detectors are well known around the world for their innovative features, craftsmanship quality, and their overall reliability.

Listed below, are three of the best radar detectors Whistler has produced throughout the years, the Whistler Pro 73, Whistler Pro 58, and Whistler Pro 3450.

Whistler Pro 73 and Whistler Pro 58
The Whistler Pro73 is the flagship product of Whistler's line of radar detectors, and includes quite a number of the high-end functionality that picky drivers look for when purchasing their radar detector, such as:

. POP Mode Detection defeats the newest model radar guns, which send radar in continuous "pops", each at less than 1/15 of a second long.
. Intense Blue Text Display - easy to understand text messages in subdued blue
. Real Voice Audio Alerts - easily understood human voice alerts enables the driver to respond faster
. High Gain Optical Lens
. Stay Alert Mode - every 30 to 60 seconds, an alarm sounds, if no button is pressed within 3 to 5 seconds, triggers a full volume alarm
. Total Band Protection - provides full coverage of the X, K, and Ka bands, as well as Laser
. Three (3) City Modes, this reduces the sensitivity on the X band during city use, for fewer false alarms triggered by the signals used by automatic doors and alarm systems
. Tutorial Mode

While the Pro 73 isn't as good as the king of radar detectors, the Escort 8500 X50, the Whistler Pro73 is nonetheless an excellent detector, with an impressive set of useful and necessary features.

Differences of the Whistler Pro58 and Pro73
Two key differences can be noted between these models. First, the audio and display alerts. The Pro58 is designed with a symbol-based 7-segment display (which requires a slight learning curve), while the Pro73 sports an easier to read display text in intense blue letters. The Pro73 also features better audio alerts, while the Pro58 lets out various whistles and chirps to warn you of alerts; the Pro73 is also featured with an easy to understand Real Voice alerts. If you're comfortable or used to "decoding" symbols and sounds in real time, the Pro58 is a good option, on the other hand, if you'd prefer on just being told directly on what the alerts are, either in plain text or spoken words, then the Pro73 will probably be better for you and is worth the extra cost.

Whistler Pro 3450
Whistler's new product, the remote Pro3450 features a full range of protection, including the ability to sniff out the new POP mode radar guns. The unit, built into your vehicle, provides 360 degrees of protection from both laser and radar. The display unit can be placed on or underneath your dash. Standout features are the brilliant blue LED display, with a vertical and upside down display option, a "Stay Awake" mode, periodically sounding an alarm every 30 to 60 seconds, and the three very sensitive city modes, which considerably reduce false alarms.

The Whistler 3450 is the sole remote detector within its price class to offer voice alerts - this is a very important feature to take note of, since the main reason a driver purchases a remote radar detector system is usually to place their unit hidden from sight. This makes it difficult to keep an eye on the detector's display screen when you have it hidden away inside your dash; voice alerts conveniently solve this problem, this allows your eyes to stay on the road, it's where it should be in the first place.
