Whistler Radar Detectors
The Whistler Radar Detector company has been around for over 30 years, providing quality protection for drivers. They're one of the leading innovators in the radar detector market. Whistler, unlike a few of the other detector manufacturers, has decided to focus on a small number of their products, fully dedicating their resources to further improve their reliability. The company, located at Bentonville, Arkansas, Whistler radar and laser detectors, are renowned worldwide, for their quality craftsmanship, innovative features, and total reliability.
Whistler focuses on three of its products, Whistler Pro 3450, Whistler Pro 73, and the Whistler Pro 58.
. Whistler Pro 3450
Whistler's new remote Pro3450 features the widest range of detection, which includes the ability to pick up the recently adopted POP-mode radar guns. Built into the vehicle, the Pro3450 provides 360 degrees of protection from laser and radar. The display unit can either be mounted on or underneath the dash. Notable features include the brilliant blue LED display, which can be set to display at any orientation, the "Stay Awake" mode, and the three very sensitive city modes, which greatly reduces false alarms.
The Whistler 3450 is the sole remote detector in its price class offering voice alerts, with the optional Voice Module. This is an important aspect to note, considering that the main reason a driver buys a remote system is to have their radar detection system totally hidden from sight. However, when the display's hidden under the dash, it's quite difficult to keep an eye on the screen; the voice alerts neatly solve this problem, allowing you to always keep full view of the road ahead.
The Voice Module add-on for the Whistler 3450 gives Real Voice Alerts, letting you pay attention on the events in front of you, reducing accidents, while staying fully informed of any alerts. With the 3450 Voice Module plugged-in, you avail of a powerful remote speaker that emanates a real human voice to announce safety radar messages, identify threats, and confirm your selected features. The voice quality is amazing in quality, sounding like a real human voice, rather than a synthesized, difficult to understand computer voice.
. Whistler Pro 73
The Whistler Pro73 is the flagship detector of Whistler's line of products, and sports quite a number of the high-end functionality that picky drivers search for when purchasing a radar detector.
Features:
. Stay Alert Mode - every 30 to 60 seconds, an alarm sounds, if no button is pressed within 3 to 5 seconds, triggers a full blast alarm
. Total Band Protection - provides full coverage of the X, K, and Ka bands, including Laser
. Three (3) City Modes, this reduces the sensitivity on the X band during city use, minimizing false alarms triggered by the signals used by automatic doors and alarm systems
. Real Voice Audio Alerts - easily understood human voice alerts enables the driver to respond faster
. POP Mode Detection defeats the newest model radar guns, which send radar in continuous "spurts" or "pops", each lasting at less than 1/15 of a second.
. Intense Blue Text Display - easily understood text messages in subdued blue
. Tutorial Mode
While the Pro 73 isn't on par with the overall best, the Escort 8500 X50, the Whistler Pro73 is still a quality detector, with an impressive set of useful and necessary features.
Differences between the Whistler Pro58 and the Pro73
The two main differences between these models are the audio and display alerts. The Pro58 is designed with a symbol dependent 7-segment display (which would entail a slight learning curve), while the Pro73 has an easier to read text display in intense blue letters. The Pro73 is also featured with better audio alerts, while the Pro58 has various whistles and chirps to warn you of an impending speeding ticket; the Pro73 is also designed with an easy to understand "Real Voice" alert. If you don't mind or even comfortable to "decoding" symbols and sounds while you drive, then the Pro58 is a great choice, however, if you'd rather to just be directly told on what the alerts are, in plain text or spoken words, then you'd probably be better off with the Pro73, it is definitely well worth the extra cost.
